This Henry Weekes painting was nearly completely detached from the original stretcher bars on three sides when received, due to age and decay of the original canvas. To repair this the painting was reattached to a new sheet of canvas using conservators adhesive and remounted it to the original stretcher bars. The repair is illustrated in the attached photos. The painting had the minor chips addressed, and original varnish removed and reapplied giving the painting the look the artist intended. All work was done using conservation methods and can be reversed.
The frame had damaged ornaments addressed and remade, and corner cracks filled. The the original finish was redone to have a more uniform look and give a minor shine from the gold paint below. The inner border was left as a solid gold to give emphasis to the art work.
